1 note &
Homelessness is not a Popular Cause
There is no huge campaign, no ribbons or bands that are easily recognisable. No cupcakes baked or sponsored runs. Instead we have allowed the plight of the homeless to drift away from our consciousness.
I have my own theory on why this is. Homelessness is not “sexy,” it is not popular and it is because people by and large have no desire or interest in helping the homeless. They do not want to help people who are mentally ill, drug and alcohol addicts and the poor, to most of the world homelessness is a problem that needs to be contained and not solved.
People want a cause or campaign they can relate to, something that makes them feel good about themselves. That is why the most popular causes are animals and poor children; they are helpless.
Because of the stigma associated with homelessness, they are not considered helpless but are considered lazy and irresponsible.
Um, tell me about it.
